Every Filipino has its own right to do whatever they want to do as long as it does not hurt someone. Here in the Philippines, we are all free in doing what we want as long as it is right in the law. There are many kinds of strike or type of strike that every Filipino join here in Manila. But at this present Filipino transport group has a nationwide that causes Filipino commuters to delay their work and their daily activities. It means that transport strike nationwide has something to ask to our government and to the Land Transportation Office of the Philippines. Filipino group who perform a nationwide transport group is seeking all Filipino communities to join them and help them what they are asking in the Philippines government.

What is the Nationwide Transport Strike?

A nationwide transport strike in the Philippines is a group of public transportation of Pinagkaisahang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (PISTON), Stop and Go Coalition, and Alliance of Concerned Transport Organization (ACTO). These major groups of public transportation have pushed a major strike that hit all Filipino commuters to suffer their way going to work or to any place within that day. One of the most affected also is all students ho commute their way to school using public transport in the Philippines.  Transport strikes can happen every time when the group has something to request to the government yet they did not respond to it. Filipino drivers and operators have a lot of suggestions for the Land of Transportation Office. They want the government to give them a fair treatment when it comes to the fare of public transport because of the higher cost of gasoline that we have now and the increase of all expenses and commodities at this present. While the fare for public transport could no change even if the gasoline always increases every now and then. This is what we called a transport strike and if all the group of drivers and operators and even all the Filipino commuters join with the strike it is called a nationwide transport strike.

  1. One of the major effects of the nationwide transport strike in the Philippines to Filipino people is the delay of everything, like people who work have a delay on their schedule when the strike happens.

  3. It also affects the economy of the Philippines because of the delay of goods to bring to their destination ad all products that will be brought using public transportation.
  4. The effect of this nationwide transport strike on Filipino people can cause hundreds of passengers who are stranded going to their destination.
  5. The government also affected and try to replace an alternative means of transportation so that they can help a lot of commuters to go their respective daily activity.
  6. This also affects those drivers who attend or joined the nationwide strike that they can their franchise in Land Transportation Office may be suspended or canceled or it can be revoked.

The Reason Why Transport Group Had a Strike

Here in the Philippine, the government wants our transportation to be in a modern way. The public transportation at this present time has a lot to change even if all Filipino drivers don’t want this kind of change. The public utility vehicle wants the government to become modernization and they want to change all jeepney to be in a modern vehicle. However despite it, Filipino won’t agree with the way that the government wants in pushing our public transport into modernization. They want to phaseout all jeepney that we all use ever since and a lot of Filipino people dint like the idea to change our public transport if they want to change it in modern technology.

We Filipinos are used to ride in a jeepney and it is the Philippines ‘ most popular public transport vehicle. We are known to use jeepney and all foreign people love to ride on it this vehicle can only found in the Philippines. The government sometimes blames all the jeepney and the driver for the cause of traffic in Metro Manila. So the government plans to modernize the public transport that focuses especially on all jeepney vehicles. At present, the administration of this country want to old old model of the jeepney to be modernized, however even if they trying to get all old jeepney to look good and to be in a modern look Filipino drivers and operators doesn’t want a change of their vehicle because they cannot afford the price of the modern vehicle that the government offer. They think that this kind of change is not helpful for them because they cannot pay an additional amount for the new vehicle.

Filipino people do not afraid of changes or they have no problem if our country wants the best public transportation vehicle to become modern in a way that looks good and comfortable with the passenger and commuter. However, they cannot go for it because Filipino drivers and operators believe that this kind of change is anti-poor and profit-oriented. They agree on the progress of our country in terms of transportation and modern development but they do not agree on how they discuss it to all drivers that they cannot afford to buy new ones and modern ones. That’s why Filipino drivers and operators group and association do a transport strike to hear their voice on what will happen if many of the old jeepney vehicles were supposed to phase out. Some of them have no budget and cannot afford to buy a new modern vehicle.

The Philippines Most Popular Transport but Less Expensive

One of the most popular transport vehicles in the Philippines is a jeepney vehicle. It is one of the well-known vehicles of all Filipino people and almost all Filipinos can ride in these vehicles in their life. You can find it anywhere in the Philippines from provinces to cities. This vehicle symbolizes the culture of the Philippines. The jeepney vehicle is one of the cheapest means of transportation in the Philippines and it is very easy to find it anywhere you where to go. Jeepney in the Philippines is very useful especially to those who cannot afford to ride in a taxi or Grab car because it expensive compare to jeepney fare.

Another source of transportation in the Philippines is tricycle this one is used only for 3 to 4 person and their destination is only in one route along the nearest street in their designated city. This also one of the cheapest means of transportation in the Philippines and the country one of the popular means of transportation. The tricycle cannot pass on major highway because of the small size of this vehicle.

Another vehicle that most Filipino use and less expensive is Pedicab. It does not need gasoline when driving a pedicab it can only use by a person that needs to use the feet of the driver so that it can move. In the Philippines, it is called “padyak” or “trikad”. It uses human power to move and deliver its passengers to their destination. It is used only in the secondary street or small town or villages in the city. At present Pedicab is very useful especially rainy days because of the flood in some streets and areas on some roads in the city of Manila.

Habal-Habal is now in demand here in Metro Manila because of the very traffic everywhere in the street and highway. Before Habal-Habal can use only in the provinces and that area with narrow roads and cannot be reached by a large vehicle.

Conclusion :

Here in the Philippines, Filipino is open to changes and open to modern technology that represents how the country improve and develop. But somehow that improvement and development are not afforded for those Filipinos who have a minimum salary and wages. And for some reason, the government needs to change and want to become our transportation into modernization. This includes the jeepney vehicle, they want the jeepney to try a new modern transport vehicle. In this kind of change, Filipino drivers and operators perform a strike just to let to know the government that they don’t approve of the modernization that they will change the oldest jeepney with the 15 years above to new modern vehicles. The modernization plan that the government wants in transportation is now focused on those jeepneys with a very old model. Filipino drivers and operators do not agree with these changes because they cannot afford to buy a new modern vehicle.
